Gunnison River

Status: Excellent
Details: Gunnison River flows near Gunnison are at 470cfs. These flows are much lower than normal for this time of year. Morning and afternoon Caddis hatches are still present, providing excellent dry fly fishing opportunites. Hopper dropper rigs are also effective.
Suggested Patterns: Elk Hair Caddis (brown) 14, 16 ; Parachute Adams 12,14,16 ; Pats Rubber Legs 8,10 ; Parachute Madam X (yellow) 14, 16 ; Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail 12, 14, 16.

Black Canyon

East River

Details: East River flows are 302 cfs at Almont. The fishing is excellent with dries and droppers. The Green Drakes are on their way.
              Early season is the time for best productivity at the Wild Trout Waters of the Roaring Judy.
Suggested Patterns: Yellow Stimulator 10, 12 ; Chubby Chernobyl (blk/tan) 12, 14, 16 ; Royal Stimulator 8, 10 12 ; Elk  Hair Caddis 12, 14
                                     Psycho Prince (purple) 14; Two bit Hooker (Red & Green) 14, 16; Jig FB Pheasant Tail  12, 14;

Taylor River

Details: The Taylor is flowing 255cfs out of the reservoir. Very good fishing at these levels in all public accessed areas.
              Look for the unoccupied pullouts and fish a shorter leaders at 7.5ft to 8.5ft. High stick the pocket water with a big dry fly and a dropper.
Suggested Patterns: Caddis 14, 16 ; Crystal Humpy 12, 14,16; Rubber leg stimulator (yellow) 14, 16 ; Parachute Adams 14, 16. Chubby Chernobyl 8,10

Status: The Backcountry in the Gunnison drainage holds a dramatic array of quality water. With the opportunity to catch Rainbow, Brown, Brook & Cutthroat in any of these streams. Isolate your choice for any particular species, chase all species in one stream or just enjoy great fishing in stunningly beautiful locations.
Ruby Anthracite, Anthracite creek, Cement Creek, Brush Creek, Spring Creek, Texas Creek, Trout Creek, Cochetopa Creek, Crystal Creek, Willow Creek, Coal Creek. The choices are many and you can choose to hike in to get away from the crowds. Prepare properly and enjoy dry fly fishing with lighter fly rod weights.
Details: 2018 is going to be a low water year so be stealthy in your approach and pray for rain.
