Black Canyon Fishing Report as of October 5th, 2014: This time of year is a great time to get down into the Black Canyon/Gunnison Gorge as temperatures are still fairly warm and cool morning and evenings make great hiking weather. Look for midges, blue winged olives and caddis to be hatching throughout the month. Fishing pressure will be minimal so get out and enjoy one of the most unipue places on the Western Slope. Suggested Fly Patterns: Natural color streamers, large stonefly nymphs like a rubber legs in sizes 4-8, Hare's ear nymphs in sizes 14-18, san juan worms in sizes 10-14, baetis nymphs in sizes 18-20, Rusty and black midges in sizes 18-22.
